  • Kindling is an independent steakhouse located in the heart of the Brighton Lanes at 69 East Street (BN1 1HQ), just a short walk from the seafront.

  • Kindling restaurant is located in the Brighton Lanes, where on-street parking is very limited.

    If you're driving to our steakhouse in Brighton, we recommend using one of the nearby car parks instead.

    Please note that East Street is closed to traffic on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 7pm, so you won’t be able to drive directly to the restaurant during those times.

    If you're visiting for lunch or dinner in Brighton, it’s worth allowing a little extra time to park, especially on weekends when the area gets busy.

    If you’re local, walking, taking public transport or getting a taxi is often the easiest way to reach us in the Lanes.

    Kindling is located in the Brighton Lanes and has become a favourite for steak, Sunday roast and lunch in Brighton among both locals and visitors.

    We focus on simple, great value steak cooked over flame, alongside great wines and a relaxed atmosphere.

  • We recommend making a reservation beforehand. You can book online or call the restaurant directly.

    Please note that we cannot currently reserve outdoor seating.

  • All our bookings are made using OpenTable, and we require card details for all of them.

    No-shows and late cancellations can be charged £15 per person. We have a 15-minute grace period, so please let us know if you are running late to avoid any complications with your booking.

  • We’re open seven days a week from 12 noon for lunch and dinner in Brighton. The last seating times are:

    • Monday – Thursday 9:30 pm

    • Friday and Saturday 9:45 pm

    • Sundays 9pm

  • We do require card details for all bookings. This ensures that the table is booked for a real customer and not being booked and re-sold or double booked. This also ensures that “no-shows” are less likely to happen and the limited space available is used to its full potential for our dining customers. We do not store or see the card details you enter while booking using OpenTable (via Stripe).

  • You can easily change or amend your reservation through your Opentable confirmation email if you’re within 24 hours of your booking time. You can find out more here.

  • You can book a table for parties of up to 12 on Monday-Thursday. On Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, the group bookings are limited to 6 people.

  • Yes! Mondays are local industry nights at our Brighton steakhouse. Anyone working in hospitality in Brighton and Hove can get 20% off their full bill.

  • We accept all major credit cards, and for your convenience, cash is also welcome.

  • Kindling has a casual, laid-back atmosphere with no specific dress code.

  • Kindling is a small restaurant with an open kitchen in the middle. We want all of our customers to enjoy our food using all of their senses.

  • We'd be delighted to be part of your celebration! Unfortunately we cannot allow any food brought into the restaurant for health and safety reasons.

  • Looking for a Sunday roast in Brighton?

    Our Sunday roasts are served as a sharer for two, and feature a 450g dry-aged Cote de Boeuf cooked over a live fire for that irresistible smoky goodness, crispy duck fat rosemary roast potatoes, heritage maple-roasted carrots, a giant Yorkshire, char-grilled hispi cabbage and, of course, rich red wine & onion gravy to drizzle over it all. We might be biased, but we think this must be one of the best roasts in Brighton!

  • On sunny weekends, we put out a few outdoor tables on East Street, right outside the restaurant.

    These can’t be booked in advance, so they’re ideal for walk-ins, especially when the restaurant is fully booked inside.

    East Street has a great buzz to it, making it a lovely spot for outdoor dining in Brighton, right in the heart of the Lanes with plenty of people-watching.

  • No, our meat is not halal.

  • Yes! While Kindling is known for our fire-cooked steaks, our menu always includes delicious vegetarian and gluten-free dishes.

    Just let us know when booking or speak to your server and we’ll take care of you.

  • Are you looking for a dog friendly restaurant in Brighton & Hove? Kindling is dog friendly and well-behaved dogs are very welcome.

    Please mention you’re bringing a dog when booking as there is limited space in the restaurant where we can seat you with a dog.

  • Kindling is a family friendly Brighton restaurant. We love hosting your family dinners and lunches.

    We have a dedicated kids’ menu for children under 10. Our friendly staff can help guide you towards options that will please the little ones.

    If you’re bringing a large pram or buggy, please add an extra person to your booking and leave us a note when you book, so we can make sure you’re comfortably seated. Highchairs are also available upon request.

  • We have a wheelchair-accessible entrance, but unfortunately due to the way the building is laid out, we do not have wheelchair-accessible toilets (they are situated at the back of the restaurant, on the mezzanine level, separated from the dining room by a set of stairs).
